| Motability is a charity which helps
disabled people of all ages get around, it does this by helping them to
use a Component of their Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or War Pensioners'
Mobility Supplement (WPMS) to lease or buy a car.
There are various ways you can get more mobile with
Motability's help. People using the Motability scheme either Contract
hire a new car or use hire purchase to buy a new or quality used car.
Anyone who is in receipt of the higher rate mobility component of DLA
or the WPMS can apply. Children from five years old and non-drivers can
also apply for cars as passengers, provided they receive the correct allowance.
Motability's charitable fund can help if you are unable to afford the
advance payment on some lease vehicles and in some instances driving lessons
or adaptation's to the vehicle. Grants are made towards the least expensive
option to meet your basic mobility needs.
If you have more severe disabilities and require a specially adapted vehicle
you may qualify for a grant from the Government's mobility equipment or
drivers funds which
are administered by Motability.
At Castle Douglas, our Motability experts are available
to advise you on your eligibility for the Motability Scheme, help
you
complete the paperwork, and ensure that you drive away in the car which
best suits your needs, having obtained all the financial help available
to you. If by any misfortune you cannot come in to see us we will be
able to come to your home to complete paperwork or test drive a vehicle.
