MG unveils the MG Go concept
A first look at the future: MG unveils the MG Go concept
If you kept half an eye on the motoring news this week, you may have spotted MG turning heads at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Alongside its current line-up of electric and hybrid models, MG used the world-famous event to unveil something altogether more exciting: a brand-new concept car called the MG Go. Here in Dumfries we're used to seeing MG's latest models roll onto our forecourt on St. Mary's Street, but concept reveals like this offer a genuine glimpse of where the brand is headed next — and this one looks like a real statement of intent.
What is the MG Go?
The MG Go is a concept car, unveiled at Goodwood on 9 July 2026, that previews an all-new MG 2 supermini due to arrive in showrooms in 2027. It's a fully electric model, around four metres long — a touch smaller than today's MG3 — and pitched as a rival to the likes of the Renault 5 and Mini Cooper. Rather than being positioned as a budget runabout, MG has been clear that the production car will lean into style and personality, aiming for a genuinely fashionable small EV rather than simply the cheapest option on the market. MG's product team have said this is a segment the brand has "long wanted to get into," with the aim of attracting drivers who might never previously have considered an MG. There's a British connection too: the car has been designed at MG's London design studio, with European and British drivers specifically in mind — a nice touch for a brand with such deep roots in UK motoring history.
Why we're excited (and what happens next)
It's worth being upfront: the MG Go is a concept, not a car you can order today. Specifications, pricing, and the final production design are all still to be confirmed, and the finished MG 2 isn't expected until 2027. As with any concept reveal, some details may change between now and launch. What it does tell us is that MG isn't slowing down. From the MG3 and MG4 EV to the HS and the head-turning Cyberster, the brand has built a genuinely broad range in a short space of time — and the Go suggests there's plenty more still to come. In the meantime, our current range of new MG models is very much available to view, test drive, and order here in Dumfries — from the MG3 right through to the fully electric MG4 and MG S6. Our team will also be keeping a close eye on updates about the MG 2 as they're confirmed, so keep checking back or drop into the showroom on St. Mary's Street to ask us what we know. Specifications and details of concept vehicles are subject to change ahead of production. Please contact James Haugh for the latest confirmed information on MG's current model range.
