Vauxhall's New Griffin Emblem Revealed

Walk down almost any street in Dumfries and you'll spot a Griffin on the front of a car or van. Now Vauxhall's famous emblem is getting a fresh new look. Vauxhall has revealed a new, more streamlined version of its Griffin logo, the thirteenth main redesign since the 1920s. It's sharper, cleaner and more modern, and it gives us a first glimpse of where Vauxhall design is heading next.

What's changed?

The new Griffin keeps the elements that make it instantly recognisable, but with a few notable updates:

  • A more angular design that feels more contemporary
  • No flag: for the first time, the Griffin no longer holds its flag
  • Designed to light up: the simpler shape looks sharper on Vauxhall's illuminated Vizor grille

That last point is a big part of the thinking. The Vizor front end has featured across the whole Vauxhall range since 2021, and illuminated versions first appeared in production on the Grandland in 2024. The New Astra gained an illuminated Griffin in 2026, and it's set to feature on future models too. A cleaner logo simply reads better when it's lit up. As Mark Adams, Vauxhall's Design Vice-President, explains: "As the Griffin is now illuminated on the front of our latest models, this simpler design also makes it clearer and easier to identify. The new look is sharper, cleaner and fits perfectly with the next evolution of our Bold and Pure design language."

Where will you see it first?

The new Griffin makes its debut at the Paris Motor Show on the Vauxhall STX Concept. STX stands for Sports Tourer eXperimental, and it's a sleek, aerodynamic estate car that previews design features we'll see on future Vauxhalls. After that, the new emblem will appear on the next all-new Vauxhall production model, due to be revealed in 2027. Watch this space, and we'll share more as soon as we know. The new logo also sits at the heart of a fresh look for Vauxhall retailers across the UK, alongside a new brand campaign, Brit's What We Do. The campaign celebrates Vauxhall's place in British life and will build towards its role as Official Car & Van Partner to Team GB ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

A badge with centuries of history

The Griffin is much older than the cars it sits on. Its story goes back to the 13th century and Sir Falkes de Bréauté, a knight serving King John, whose coat of arms carried a griffin. Through marriage he came to own land on the south bank of the Thames, which became known as Fulk's Hall. Over time, the name became Vauxhall. Centuries later, in 1857, Alexander Wilson named his new engineering firm, Vauxhall Ironworks, after the area. The company built its first car in 1903, making Vauxhall the longest-running vehicle manufacturer still building vehicles in the UK. The early cars didn't carry a Griffin at all. That changed when a young apprentice, Harry Varley, won a competition to design a new badge. He went back to Falkes' heraldic griffin for inspiration, and the first circular Griffin badge was born. More than a hundred years and twelve redesigns later, here we are.
